Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are vocational-based jobs with both on the job and off the job training.  Learners will also receive training in Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR), Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and, where applicable, Functional Skills in English and Maths.  Practical training will be assessed in the workplace, although training will take place at work or if the apprentice attends we offer some basic practical training on block heads in our training centre to back up salon delivery.

IFL offer a unique combination of classroom based or open-learning routes, alongside real salon working experience to ensure all learners receive a well-rounded commercially viable apprenticeship experience.

Additional Notes

Funding

Apprenticeship qualifications are fully funded for 16-18-year-old, with a mandatory employer contribution for any apprentice over 19 years.

Apprentices over 19 years can be paid the Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW) for the first 12 months of the apprenticeship.

Functional Skills

In line with Apprenticeship Funding Rules for training providers, progression towards and attainment of approved level 2 English and maths is an important part of the apprenticeship programme. For those undertaking a level 3 or higher apprenticeship, it is a requirement they should hold or achieve an approved level 2 in both subjects before they can successfully complete the apprenticeship.

On commencement of an apprenticeship learners will undertake a Functional Skills Initial Assessment to determine the appropriate level of English and maths to be completed. Functional Skills qualifications are fully funded by the ESFA.
